Great conditions for paddling today though not the best for fishing. Super dirty water. We worked the deeper kelp areas for a mixed bag of Rockfish mostly, Coppers with some Olives. Since my partner for the day was new, I told him I would handle and hold on to all of the fish we caught/landed until we got back to shore.
As we waited outside the surfline to secure the gear before landing, I noticed a zodiac flying in just adjacent to us. It turned out to be DFG. This was the first time I had seen DFG in a boat around the LA County coastline. I handed them our bag of assorted rockfish to check out while I held on to the outside of their zodiac. They checked licenses, took a quick peak at the hatches and off they went. Since it was Mike's first time out, he was as impressed if not more, than I was. I of course explained that up to that point, that was extremely rare. Though I would have to guess that this will be a continuing trend for the DFG. Keep in mind that they're not just checking recreational anglers but they're checking the commercial boats as well. I was glad to see their presence.
