: Check this out. Story from the LA Times. I think La Jolla might be a better call after reading this.Meanwhile, in Southern California If you're a surfer planning a trip to San Onofre State Beach, you might want to know that there has been at least one large great white Domeier, whose organization has been involved in a long-term white shark tagging study at Guadalupe Island off Baja California, said he has wrestled with his conscience for days over what to do with the information and has been considering issuing a news release announcing the frequent presence of the shark.Trestles is a good jog up the coast. There are several popular surf spots closer to the generating plant, the closest being accessible by Trail One at the southern end of the state beach.
I have been diving and surfing down at San Onofre since I was a little kid and I have seen large Makos and sometimes even blues within 300 yards from shore the water down there is extremely fertile and supports a very large variety of plant and animal life. Within the past few years the white shark population along our coast has inceased dramatically ( I think it is due to all of the research being done on them so there is more focus on studying them live rather than killing them)the waters off San Onofre offshore become deep quite quickly and are the type of bottom contour that white sharks prefer the only thing missing for them down there is a large seal and sea lion population I think that in the future we will see an increase in white sharks along the entire coast.
