: : I am sure you all have seen the news and read the reports. Yes it is a tragic event.Tell me how many of you would wear a wet suit and flippers and swim amongst the seals (probably sea lions)I woulld like to think that kayakers are well informed and would consider that risky behavoir.Jerrybe careful out there Btw, the tuna are running not too far off shore up there. I'm no marine biologist, but it makes me curious if the tuna arrival can take any credit for a temporary increase of whites in the area. I have no idea whether they increased in numbers because the tuna are around, nor if an increase of numbers offshore could be correlated with this attack. It just makes me think "Hmmmmmmmmm". Something like this wouldn't keep me off the water but it does remind us to respect certain conditions. In this case, it was a pack of seals most likely feeding and playing in a concentrated area. When I was in Big Sur just last week, there were porpoises and whales working up a huge amount of bait to the surface just outside the kelp beds. I stayed clear of that activity. I'm not an expert on marine habitat but I know enough to have a healthy respect for those conditions to stay clear when or if I encounter them. This isn't Sea World....The ocean is somewhat like an untamed frontier. Yeehaw!!!jas

RE: LMAO; I just learned that there are Killer Whales that migrate to Monterey Bay.
