: Is there a center hatch for tackle?

You can put in a round hatch, but as you can see there is a spot for a tackle box in front of the bait tank, this worked very well. I have never liked the round hatches or the larger hatches under my legs.

How does the water drain from the front hatch area if you take a wave over the bow?

There are drain slots along the edge. After spending half an hour surfing, going in and out, punching through lots of waves and letting the kayak roll around in the surf for several minutes I had less than a cup of water inside the hull.

Lastly, how does it track coming in through surf? Is it easy to keep straight in the event you catch a suprise wave?

This kayak handles the surf very well. Like any rudderless kayak it will turn sideways if you get pushed a long distance. Honestley most people just need to learn the technique to handle the kayak once this happens.
Hope this helps.
