Fished in the Fishingnetwork.net trout derby at Irvine lake on Sat 11/8. Got in line about 3am already about 10th or more in line. On the water by about 6:15. Trolled around with my usual Firetiger Cd and Ft 5 Rapallas. Had First fish by 6:40, just as I approached the west shore. I kept making a loop from the west shore about half way to the dam to the dam then half way up dam then right down the middle to about half way down the shoreline again. This really seemed to be a great little trolling pattern. Met up with Grego and ladies. Ran into Ric from Malibu and Grippermike. Nice to meet you Mike. I had great action all morning. I straightened the hook on one of my rapallas and broke off another. Had to dig through the ol' tackle box for some other patterns. As soon as I did, wham, Hook Up. Then boom, double. Stops on the Rainbow trout pattern and the shad color cd 5's. Biggest fish early was a 4.9 on Grippermikes scale. I had two lines out with the sinking cd 5's and pulled up to Mike and chatted for a while. Then after about 15 minutes as soon as I started to pull away Blam. I got hit by my biggest of the day 6.15lb rainbow. He hit me deep because lines were straight down, and I had just started to paddle. Got him netted, took a few pictures and into the cooler he went. Ended the day with my limit that weighed 19.7lb. Pretty nice for 5 fish. With that 6.15 being my biggest. Turns out that it was the biggest for out tournament too. I took that jackpot and the jackpot for heavyest stringer too. Pretty nice day. I was off of the water by about 12:40. All of the fish that I caught were in about 40ish feet of water. Well not all, I did catch a 5lb in the flats on the way back to the dock in about 7ft of water, surprised me. Grippermike did manage a limit of Brookies, nice to see. I think he said he caught them in the shallows. Greggo's ladies ended up with a fish or two and so did Ric. What a great day. For all of the rain that was forecasted, it sure ended up nice. Taking home some cash doesn't hurt either. I'll post some on the water pics as soon as I get them.
