: I AM INTERESTED IN SOME REVIEWS OF THE MALIBU PRO2TANDEM FOR FISHING
I’ve been paddling my pro2 for over a year and a half and fish on an average of twice weekly, sometimes three times. I fish both fresh and salt. I mostly paddle single. I love the deck space and stability, and I don’t think there’s any other tandem out there with the same storage ability, just look at the center hatch. I can fit all my poles and gear inside when launching and landing in the surf. I store my bait tank where the 2nd person would sit, which compensates for not having weight distributed evenly, it makes it a lot easier grabbing bait also. I only weight 160lbs, so it doesn’t really affect me anyhow. The thing is surprisingly durable, I drag mine all over, including asphalt for short distances, still no leaks. It doesn’t look pretty on the bottom (mine is white) but I don’t see it anyhow. One of the neat things is that you can mount your plano waterproof tackle box and fish finder on the center hatch and not worry too much about screwing up, cuz it’s 100 times easier to replace the hatch cover than trying to weld mistaken holes. I’ve also crashed through some huge waves without any problems because the bow design.
Main thing to me is that it catches fish just like every other kayak. I’ve heard people say you can’t bring in big fish with it, but I’ve caught threshers, wsb, and nice size halibut without any problems.
Drawback – it’s slow compared to single kayaks. I’m not sure about other tandems, but I hear from everyone no matter what type of tandem, they are all slow. People don’t normally buy tandems if they’re looking for speed anyhow. I also don’t care for the dive tank mounts, because I don’t dive, but the rear one I use to lay my gaff and game clip on (both are clipped onto the yak)
I also use mine for lobster hooping, which allows me to store all my hoops right on deck in front of me without being all cramped up.
