Had a great time fishing Mark's 8th (?) bi-annual derby. I think there were about 17 anglers, but more fish were entered than the last derby in June. I can't recall the specific fish weights, but they were close to:
1st: halibut, just over 20lbs
2nd:halibut, approx. 13 lbs
3rd: halibut, approx. 10lbs
4th: Ling, 8.5 lbs
There were several lings close in size, in the 7-8 pound category, and a few rockfish.
Weather was stellar in the AM, so nice that even a couple of threshers showed up outside the harbor. Water was glassy until around 10:30, with large bait balls and water vis close to 20 ft. Not too shabby. I ended up hooking 4 nice lings, and submitted the 8.5 pounder. Nice BBQ in the afternoon with plenty of fresh ling on the grill. Life is good.
Next derby will be in June, so tune up those flattie landing skills over the winter.
