hey chef:
Next time, put your email address in and i'll send you a copy of my weekly Santa Cruz fish report, it looks just like the one in the Santa Cruz Sentinel.
short version:
Salmon in soquel hole 300ft, off harbor 300 ft trolling, and off lighthouse 80-100 ft trolling or mooching.
Halibut still in all the flat sandy areas from Moss Landing to Ano Nuevo. Good pick would be four mile or Davenport areas for big females in 20-60 ft of water.
Some WSB around pleasure point 40 ft of water, flyline squid outside of the kelp beds.
A few stripers here and there near Capitola and the beaches south.
Rockfish limits are the rule off lighthouse and North coast reefs. Lings averaging a fish per rod.
Occasional T shark- could be anywhere 30 ft -3000ft.
Oh, and BTW, we're enjoying the best albacore bite in history, but that's far offshore, just thought I'd add it in to round things off.
good launch points are:
The Santa Cruz Harbor- free small boat ramp on West side of harbor down by the bridge and UCSC docks.
Santa Cruz Wharf public launch dock- close to lighthouse area. Good rockfish in front of lighthouse and in the kelp beds, and good halibut fishing in sandy areas out front of wharf.
Beach north of Capitola Wharf. Straight out in 60 ft of water is Mile reef- good rockfish and lings, halibut in surrounding sandy aareas, and for some reason, salmon, T sharks, and WSB cruise through there occasionally.
Good luck, tell us how you do, and feel free to email me for a go-out later in October.
Allen
