Come to think of it you are right Jim, but I use an electric most of the time and my misconception works great, I turn sharply, much better than the paddle can do.
I am old and stiff, the electric extends my horizon many times over and I get back with enough energy to enjoy my trip. The sound of that quiet gurlgle on the way back is very relaxing....
