My first attempt at hoop nets: 7 bugs, 6 short and one big fat legal. :D. Baited the hoops with Mackrel and Cat food. I got started about 1 hr. after sunset, but I noticed there was a small boat out there setting just before sun set. As I approached the boat, I noticed they were pulling them in like crazey. The guy told me they come out right at sun set and that's when they are the most active. After that, they move out farther from the shore. I don't know how many legals they had, but I could hear them hoop and holler every time they pulled one up. I was just setting when they were leaving. does anybody have more info. on this. I tried a few different spots, but the best was right around the corner from the launch area. I used Q mans set up with one change. I took some water bottles and tied some twine around the neck and placed one of those plastic key chain hooks about a foot up at the other end. I then placed a glow stick in each bottle. When I set, I just hook the bottle on the line reel. very easy to find. All in all, I think I did pretty darn good for my first try. It was not as hard as I thought it would be.
Now, can someone tell me how to prepare and cook this guy. I've got him in a bucket of water and he is still kicking. what now? :?: I think the tail is all there is that is eatable, is that right? Like I said, I am really new at all this. One more thing, and I don't want to bum everybody out, but I heard the baby beach was closed to swimming due to contamination. Is this true?
