: The other thing I forgot to say was the the rubber gasket has double sided tape used as a sealant. I wasn't aware that a MARINE grade tape was produced. This says to me that the front hatch needs to be totally reworked. The front hatch combined with the low profile spell trouble. I'm not too concerned and will correct the situation in time. At least I feel I can correct it, or I would have never bought the yak.Other yaks have problems that are not correctable. I'll probably start with removing the storage piece of the hatch lid, this will lighten the bow. Then I'll redo the lid with a marine grade sealant. Because the hatch shape leaves the possibilty of bad alignment, I'll probably at a loweer gasket for a tight fit. I'll take pictures.I'll probably have to get Manny, Mo and Jack to help wiht their ideas.Bill, Mo and Neil...: I purchased the extreme. I've spent the past 3 days rigging it to my baseline standardBe aware this review is based on the comparison to my Cabo only, not the FnD, SPTW or prowler.Rigging:Internal bait tank. Purcahse option for $60.Rear hatch for bait tank $75.2 rear flush mount rod holders, standard. No eyelets were installed at my request. Malibu gave me the eyelets.I've been adding eyelets where I need themFF and GPS mount middle console.Pros:15ft of usable space. In the Cabo, the front hatch and tank were not used while on the water.Handles. I first thought they would be awkward and may still change the front. I like thesehandles.Tank well. Now that I don't have a bait tank in it - I can store some toads there. Great drainage.Rear hatch. Bait tank pre made was a great idea from Malibu.Bait tank. Made by a quality water tank company that I've dealy with before. Rick is putting together a fixture package.Cockpit. Seat has a unique channel to keep you dry. Foot wells have a channel that removes all cockpit water.Length it perfect and wide for the almost 40 year old booty.Center hatch. Beats a gaspachi hatch hands down. Stays dry because it's elavated!Rod holders. I've always wanted flush mounts.Center column. fits FF and GPS. Also able to re-enforce from beneath.Tracking - no more Cabo mambo.Dry ride. Very dry.Cons:Tank well. Kind of bowl shaped. Could be better designed in the future.Pre made bait tank. Renders a seat pocket unusable. If you are considering the bait tank, test paddle with a tank inserted. The tank makes leaning back impossible. This tank needs a gasket between it and the yak. I'm not too worried, but will have the gasket in for those Cardiff launches. I redesigned the tank to fit my needs.Cockpit: cup holder. Pet peave.Material: the foam lining almost made me not get this yak. I'll let you know if it becomes a problem. So far no problemweight: Slightly heavy but his is a fishing yak and it's about 30#'s lighter than Cabo.Tracking: can be very slappy at times. The ridge produces a gurgling noise.Front hatch: there's no easy way to describe this hatch. It is the lowest point of design.I'm sure Malibu thought they were doing us a favor by adding storage in the front hatch. I will be removing several pounds of plastic from my front hatch. I hope Malibu redesigns this and offers replacements at a reasonble price. Not only is it too heavy, too bulky and flat oyut funny, but it leaks. You may think I'm being too harsh, but I own it.Surf: Launched thru 3 foot surf, which is high for lj. The bow puched the wave withoutslowing, but that damn hatch... Stability: A+, great for beginners. I don't need that much stability unless your talking little cortez tuna :)Ok that's it for now. Please check out my pics. I'll be glad to answer any questions.http://members.cox.net/yakfish/pics/extreme/DCP_0469.JPGHi Art ,Thanks for the review. If you silicone the inside and outside of the rubber gasket you won't get any more water in the front hatch. Also you have to make up the space that's left in the middle where the gaskets meets.I don't know why they don't do that before the boat leaves the factory. It is a really good boat.Cal
Art,Try siliconing both side and fill the gap have had no trouble even with waves breaking over the bow.Once it's siliconed the alignment seems to come together.Cal
