fishfinder- inline fuses

I have a fishfinder to install, and I am confused about the inline fuses that all the sites I have seen recommend installing. I have been unable to find one that will accept an 18 guage wire. I found one at a local auto parts store that has 14 guage wire. Will it work to connect the 18 guage wire to the 14 guage wire, or will something blow? Thanks for any light you shed on this matter.
