Cowells Beach is the little cove to the right of the Santa Cruz pier. The area we fish is inside the swimming area (inside the white buoys and up against the rockwall and cliff. There are a lot of weeds in here, but persistence and patience will pay off for an anchovy dragged on ten pound line, a #2 treble hook, 2 ft leader, swivel and 1/4 oz sliding sinker.

: : Wuttup!
: : What a cool board! Got back from being out at sea on my works research vessel last night and then went out kayakfishing with one of my work buddies this morning. We fished the super shallower area of Cowells Beach for my 3 legal and 2 sublegal flattybutts. My buddy got 2 legals and 4 shorts. The conditions were beautiful. Water was flat and clear as glass and so warm I decided to jump off the kayak for a swim. We were off the water by 10 am and eating a dank sashimi lunch by 11:30. I ran into the local surfboard fishermen while I was out there. All of us shared a humboldt phatty out on the water and then, simulatenously, 3 of the five guys fishing hooked up. The best way to describe the way the halibut fishing can get in this little cove is hypnotic. Set your bait down, and just stare at the rod until it starts to twitch. Fish of the day was a twelve pounder. Drop me an email if any of you ever come up here and we'll see if we can go out.
: : Peace
