: I just picked up a new fish and dive. looking for some info on hand held radios and fish finders. such as water proof, reliability, reasonable price. any info would be much appreciated.thanks

Get a good VHF handheld submersible radio. There are a few good models out there...some with more bang for the buck than others. I've been using Standard Horizons for a few years now. I've been very happy with the performance and the value of my HX350. It's submersible, came with a 3 year warranty, a recharger for the car and charging base for home. I'd go with one of their newer lithium battery models rather than the nicad.

I also purchased a Uniden as an inexpensive backup. It wasn't submersible, came with only a 1 year warranty and didn't come with a battery charger.

There are several good sonar units on the market. You don't need anything too fancy. Matter of fact, you might want to start out cheap and upgrade later. The more waterproof the better. $100 can get you started. Spend a little more, and you can get something with a stronger transmission and better resolution. I have a Humminbird 405sx. I'm happy with this unit but some might find it a little big for their taste. It has a powerful single beam transducer. Some people prefer having multiple beams to cover a broader area.

I'm not a fan of the Humminbird Piranha or Smartcast series. I've only heard good things about their new Matrix line. Lowrance and Garmin make some nice models as well.
