I'm using the Humminbird 400TX on my Pro2Tandem and am very happy with it. I have seen some good reviews about the Matrix line. Garmin also makes several good units for use on a yak, as does the Eagle brand. If you end up getting a non-waterproof unit, make sure that you can remove the unit from its base/mount so you can store it in a dry area for entry and exit like I do with the 400TX. Also, make sure to pay close attention to where you want to mount the base on the yak. Some fishfinders/sonar units have large bases which may not be suitable for your yak. By the way, when you're ready to install the transducer (inside the hull, NOT through the hull), make sure to use the right 2-part epoxy that does not become hard but stays flexible. Otherwise, after a few uses, you'll need to buy a new transducer and re-install it because the naturally occurring bending of the yak will pop the hard/rigid epoxy right off. Good luck and best regards. -JJ-
