How much longer is the paddle from the bait barge? I've fished that four times this summer (lots of sand sharks, croaker, short bass and hali, and some legal cuddas).
: Saturday morning Veeking aka Mark and myself made the long paddle out to the point. The slack tides were of no help to us, on our paddles either in or out of the SD Bay. This made more of a difference in paddle time (as compared to paddling with the incoming and out going tides) than I had expected, by about 1/3.
: On my first cast of the day I bagged a 15” calico on a top water lure. Mark caught ½ dozen purple calicos on a blue and white fish trap.
: I saw a large fish with brown skin tailing, but it turned out to be a big bat ray.
: We were the only plastic boats on the point and there were only about 4 or 5 PB’rs out there. One of them was flying a divers flag. All the boat traffic (including the pro’s) was making a run for the border.
: I tried fishing the boiler rocks right up next to the cliffs and hooked a couple of large fish but couldn’t get them to the surface. It’s real hard to keep the yak in position when fishing that close to the surf.
: As long as the fishing remains so slow here I think I’m going to continue to target this area because it is SD counties largest kelp forest and I think it holds a lot of fish if only I can unlock it’s secrets.

: I will be kayak fishing and camping at Lake Moreno if anyone else is going to be there and wants to show me how it’s done.
