: I have recently been recommended a ocean kayaks malibu two and was wondering if anybody has any experience or advice about it. I weight 230lbs and want to use it for fishing and diving. Thanks
I learned to kayak on one. It's a great kayak for fishing. I don't scuba dive so I can't say in regards to that. The only cocern I would have are the hatches or lack of. The kayak I had didn't have any hatches. Though you can always do the milk crate/bungee trick (also can use the crate for pvc placement (make-shift rod holders). It's been a while since I've paddled a Malibu II, but I'm sure there are places you can install some sort of hatch. Call the manufacturer and ask them what the largest hatch is you can install on a Malibu II.
The milk crate would just be a last resort sort of thing. It's definately better than nothing though. The less bulky items you have top deck, the more secure you gear is.
