: : I have recently been recommended a ocean kayaks malibu two and was wondering if anybody has any experience or advice about it. I weight 230lbs and want to use it for fishing and diving. Thanks

: I learned to kayak on one. It's a great kayak for fishing. I don't scuba dive so I can't say in regards to that. The only cocern I would have are the hatches or lack of. The kayak I had didn't have any hatches. Though you can always do the milk crate/bungee trick (also can use the crate for pvc placement (make-shift rod holders). It's been a while since I've paddled a Malibu II, but I'm sure there are places you can install some sort of hatch. Call the manufacturer and ask them what the largest hatch is you can install on a Malibu II.

: The milk crate would just be a last resort sort of thing. It's definately better than nothing though. The less bulky items you have top deck, the more secure you gear is.

Malibu 2 will be fine for your needs, BC and tank go behind you durring transport to dive area. Different set ups are possible, a high back fishing seat is a must. I have some photos of mine, fully loaded at www.rhynobar.net. I have the three hatches cut out and us the round hatch covers, this allows me to mount all the excessories to the yak, and epoxey down the transducer inside the hull. TL Rhino
