I picked up some "Smoothies" for the Calcutta 250 and 400 at the show. The gal at the boot told me to run a piece of metal over the main washers to activate them before putting them in, they are supposed to get smoother as you go. Being the lazy guy I am, I cleaned the 250 and installed the drags dry as instruced. I then set the drag light and pulled about 20 yards of line off the reel, thinking that pulling drag would be the same as rubbing the washers with a piece of metal to activate them. At about 22 yards, the drag got really grabby. I took the thing apart and found the main washer in the 250 full of brass from the gear. Cleaned again and re-assembled, still grabby and tight. What am I missing?? I'm scared to try them in the 400 until I know what I did wrong, or if they'r any good.
Has anybody had any luck with these washers?? Any suggestions for the 250??
