Sometimes I just need the obvious pointed out. Took the reel back apart thinking that the drag could not have abraided the gear as somebody pointed out, they were right.
When they say no lube necessary that's not 100% accurate. Without a greased fiber washer between the gear and the anti-reverse ratchet no lube gets on the drive shaft. The brass was from the gear wearing on the drive shaft. If you install these drags, lube the gear and shaft.
