: Hey Jas,I was looking at the photos section of the site and noticed in a photo of you in your Pro Explorer that you have a Scotty type rod holder mounted near your fish finder in front of you. I would like to have one on my Pro Explorer also. I have a few questions. 1. What kind of rod holder is it? 2. If I mount one on the ridge that runs in between the foot wells will it sit up high enough so the butt of the rod won't interfere with my legs and or feet. I was looking at the Cabela's catalog, and they sell an extention that raises the rod holder up 6". Would that be necessary for this kind of setup? It looks like the way to go for drifting. I figure if it is out of the way when paddling it might also work for slow trolling as well. What are your reccomendations? Thanks Robert
I like the Scotty Powerlock rod holder. You mount a small base onto the kayak (I usually use nuts and screws). The rod holder detaches easily from the base. I don't put the holder in the base until I'm past the surf. As well just before re-entering I take the rod holder off the base and secure it in my hatch or tankwell. I usually use my shock chord/kelp clip to secure it until I need it.
You're right about it being perfect for drifting. It turns 360 degrees and locks in to whatever position you want it for (tilts the angle as well). Good question about the rod. I don't think it's a problem. I'm one who hates to have anything that would obstruct a quick bail out. The rod holder doesn't interfere with my sonar either. I was wondering if that was going to be a problem but it wasn't.
