Hang on to a long rope and let the yak go through the surf by itself (just swim in after the yak). Clear the decks, pick you time and go for it?Or is this the norm for some? Like you said “clear the decks” as long as you have nothing to loose landing in high surf is a lot of fun. The gear stowed low in the bottom of your kayak will provide extra ballast and make your kayak more stable.
You and your kayak will eventually make it to shore ;-)
