Abalone point is not open to the public(gated community). As far as I know there are two ways to get to the crystal cove area on a Yak. One is from Newport harbor (long paddle) and the other slightly closer area is Crescent bay(Cliff dr.)in Laguna beach which is a little over a mile south of Abalone point. Abalone point is just south of the beach side trailer park that borders Crystal Cove park. Parking and access is poor at Crescent bay most of the time, and it's a pretty steep hill back up, but there is pavement to the beach although the last bit is gated off to vehical traffic. You can fit a kayak through it though. One of these days I'll try it myself since I live so close to it. There are lots of boilers and cover for those bass along that stretch of coast.
