Launched with Tequila Man at 4:30 through 2-3' swells. Too lazy to paddle to the pier but found lots of smaller bait just past the 1st buoy. Several other yakkers were already there trying to make bait too but the bait didn't really cooperate until first light when we finally started getting spanish. Moved on and found a large school of 6' sardines at the edge of the kelp farther out and after a few started fishing some under the ball while continuing to make bait. Zinged almost immediately, waited a 5 count then buckled down some. I felt the weight of the fish on for a few seconds and then the wall of salad. Same thing happened again a few minutes later so I moved farther away from the kelp for 2 very short WSB. Slow trolled to the point and back through lots of puddling bait being harrassed by small calicos and barries for nada.
Ran into EE on his way out. He showed me the reds he picked up on the way and we exchanged some spanish and 'dines for some cut squid. Good to see you again John. Thanks for the squid strips and pic. I tried looking for the reds on the way back in but didn't come across them.
Landed dry at 11:00 with Tequila Man right behind and had Al Pastor tacos for lunch to end a great day out on the water.

PS. The new Matrix 25 worked perfectly. If it also holds up to kayak fishing over time, I'll be really happy with it.
