You may want to ask Eagle Eye that question as he is a La Jolla regular and I only get down there once in a while.

I remember seeing you nearby and wondered why you didn't come over when I found all the sardines. In answer to your question, if I can see boils in an area, I do sometimes slow troll a flylined bait close to the surface so it will swim along on top and skip out of the water once in a while like it's being chased. But in this case I was just trying to keep the bait from swimming down and wrapping through the kelp. I was mostly in tight to the kelp and had another rod on the outside working deeper at the same time.
