I've heard great things about the Drifter except that it takes on a bunch of water. Some of the guys have talked about stopping up a few of the scupper holes (check the link I attached). Have you checked out the Scrambler XT of one of the tandems?
I like the Humminbird fishfinders. I'm not fond of portable but some people are. I like the mount w/ detachable fish finder. I put the battery inside the hatch. I glue 2 small pieces of pool noodle to hug the battery (12volt rechargeable) which I place in a tupperware container. It doesn't move as long as the glue holds the foam noodles in place. I should add that in my Scupper is a cup holder. The battery rests up (inside the hull) against the mold of the cup holder. I mounted my fishfinders base to the compass mount of the Scupper. Since the main unit detaches from it, I can clean off the salt spray after each use. The base mount pivots and folds for easy transport. I'm using their new 405SX. It's a new one, so I'm not so sure how it's going to hold up. I've heard people say they like the Pirahna line Humminbird makes. Remember, some sonar beams (transducers) have multiple beams, some have more or less power(watts) of transmission. I went with a single beam with more juice for bottom detail. Some prefer more beams to pick up the sonar's interpretation of fish and fish schools.
I'm working on a section that will give more detail about the questions you are asking. Until then, I'm sure the guys will be able to fill you in more.

Just getting into kayak fishing. I am Looking at the Drift or Cobra Navigator can you give me any pro's and con's of each. The warranty on the Navigator is lifetime I am not sure about the Drift. My use would be the Chesapeake Bay, four to five miles off the coast, plus lakes rivers, etc. I do know that you can get a 6-8 inch dry hatch on the Navigator and also a screw in 6 inch hatch optional on the Drift - I am assuming where the cup holder is. From what I have read, I am leaning towards the Drift for performance reasons. Can you recommend a fish finder (portable of course) and the requisite power source and how to store / secure that battery power source. Also how would you recommend attaching gear on the kayak such as mounting rod holders - revits supplied by the manufacturer or do you have some alternative acceptable method that will not pre-empt the warranty or leak. On the Drift model with the large hatch on the front, can you take it off and store an anchor and other gear underneath and if you were to punch through the surf can you store rods to get past the break water - I am on the East coast 3- 4 foot swells. The drift looks like there is not enough room down the center to slide the rods. You can see that I am a complete novice any advice, tips or comments would be most appreciated
