I am an east coaster up near Boston. I got the Extreme first, loved it, then got the Pro Explorer. Both are great yaks. For big waters definitly the Exreme, its big and all the other guys say about it. I am fishing rivers and lakes and like the PE simply because it is so easy to handle in and out of the water. Both are very stable and very well laid out.
The PE is a hard shell, the Ex a softer material with hard foam liner. Its different, the foam would keep it afloat no mater what. I could not make a choice because both are great, but for a big bay and long paddles probably the Ex would be my choice. At your size even the Pro will be a big boat, the Ex a very big boat.
