There are other beaches. I think everyone does the LJ thing cus of the ridiculously easy launch. I have caught nice YT at Cardiff but I also don't mind launching in larger surf. Nothing will be calmer than LJ, it's a cove. Except harbors and they may be good for bass and halibut, etc, and the rare WSB. Also I don't mind dragging my yak in the sand 75 yards or on a yak cart. Just wait out the sets, paddle like your life depends on it until you get past the breakers, and stow everything both in and out so when you do get tossed you don't get disappointed. To me it's a lot more fun when there aren't a million people around. Yet much less consistent than LJ. On the other hand more fishing pressure at LJ, so would you rather be 1 in 30 guys dangling a bait in front of a lot of fish, or one in two guys dangling a bait in front of a smaller amount of fish. Also at LJ you have to get there early as hell to get a spot, yet at other spots not necessarilly the case. All the same at times when I go to Cardiff and then don't land something special I curse myself for not going to LJ.
