Let us know how it goes if you do it.
I have a Garmin 160 with a transome mount transducer glued down with Marine Goop, which lasts me about 8 mounths before it comes loose (usually from banging the yak around too much.) In-hull mounting is the preferred method of the vast majority of kayak anglers, and has no effect on the sonar performance (though, you obviously can't get water temp readings if the transducer inclues an embedded temperature sensor)
I also own a thru-hull ttansducer for the 160, but the idea of cutting a hole in the underside of the hull is kind of unnerving. As the hull can't be resealed if you mis-position the transducer, cut a poor hole, change your mind, decide to change boats yet keep the fish finder, etc., I have only though about it.
In addition, you need to mount it where you won't scrape the transducer as you drag the boat across the sand.
Again, let us know how it goes.
